Madeira Cask Finish
Madeira wine may only be produced on the island of Madeira, southwest of Portugal. Similar to port wine, natural fermentation is stopped after a certain period of time in Madeira so that the sugar contained does not ferment completely. This gives the wine a particularly intense sweetness. What is unusual about the maturation of Madeira is, that the barrels, which are used for the traditional method, are stored for several months at high temperatures (up to 75 degrees celsius!).
This Langatun whisky with Madeira finish is available in 49.12% alcohol volume. The whisky had previously matured in a Chardonnay barrel for a few years and was subsequently matured into a Madeira barrel, which gives its soft character and dark amber colour. In the nose we smell marzipan, pepper with pleasant, sweet Madeira notes. On the palate, notes of fresh oak combine with dried fruit in a pleasant way and combine harmoniously with the strong Madeira aroma. The aftertaste is long-lasting with warm oak notes and a hint of fine spices.
